Perhaps, when one travels more, one will realize how fortunate he/she is. This morning, I went to the Chinese Catholic parish in Los Angeles. For the fact that LA is a rather large metroplitan, I was expecting a large church for this parish, however, when I pulled in, I saw a small one-level parish hall. It was a unique experience to celebrate mass in Cantonese even when I'm a travaller in Los Angeles. The church is just adjacent to China town, so after mass, I went for a quick walk. It was already 11am, and there was no one on the street and the shops were barely open. This Chinatown is nothing like the one in Toronto or the one in New York.
Next stop was El Pueblo de Los Angeles, which is the small community for Mexican and Peruian. I think I spent way too much time here by checking out each store and vendor. Having said this, I managed to get a porcelain nativity scene made in Peru - one that I have always wanted to get. This made my day! The Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels, which is about 15 minutes walking distance away, is
HUGE and modern - the sheer massiveness is beyond what I expected.
The 3rd Promenade in Santa Monica and it adjacent beach were just beautiful on a late Sunday in June.
Plans for tomorrow: Drive to Las Vegas.
